At Inch National School, we are passionate about promoting literacy and cultivating a love for reading among our students. Here are some of the initiatives and events we organise to foster literacy skills and a lifelong appreciation for books:
- World Book Day
We celebrate World Book Day, a global event dedicated to promoting reading, storytelling, and the enjoyment of books. On this day, students participate in various literary activities and events to celebrate the magic of books. - Book Fairs
We host book fairs as fundraising events, providing students with access to a wide selection of books and encouraging them to explore different genres and authors. - Cork County Council Mobile Library
The Cork County Council Mobile Library visits our school fortnightly, allowing students to borrow books and access a diverse range of reading materials. - Literacy Lift Off
For Junior Infants to 2nd Class, we implement Literacy Lift Off, a literacy intervention programme designed to accelerate the reading and writing progress of young learners. Through guided reading sessions and literacy activities, students develop their reading and comprehension skills in a supportive environment. - Peer Reading
In 3rd Class, we implement Peer Reading sessions, where older students read with and support younger peers in developing their reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence.
These initiatives and events are designed to create a literacy-rich environment where students can develop their reading skills, expand their vocabulary, and cultivate a lifelong love for books and learning. By providing diverse reading experiences and fostering a culture of literacy, we empower our students to become confident and proficient readers who are well-equipped for academic success and personal growth.
